Smart HTTPS is a free add-on born from the open-source project, mybrowseraddon. This tool can be installed and used with a wide variety of web browsers available in the market today. Users can browse the internet more securely as it requests websites over the secure HTTPS protocol.
Smart HTTPS essentially works the same way as HTTPS Everywhere does. It automatically detects websites and requests that they are loaded using the HTTPS protocol if they support it. This protocol is a much safer and more secure alternative to the standard HTTP that is still commonly used on the web.
How does Smart HTTPS work?
Smart HTTPS is a multi-browser add-on you can use on your web browser for a safer browsing experience. Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure is an extension of the standard HTTP used on the internet for more secure communications. This protocol is encrypted using various security methods to ensure the safety and privacy of data. Not all sites load using HTTPS, hence, tools like Smart HTTPS were created to help.
Smart HTTPS will monitor websites you visit on the web to check if they are loaded using HTTPS. If not, it will automatically request it, and the webpage will be refreshed. In case a site does not support HTTPS, it’ll be added to the list of exceptions for your reference later. To determine if a page is secure, check the URL address bar for a padlock icon.
This browser add-on is easy to use and works very fast without you having to do anything at all. It does, however, lack advanced features or control options compared to similar solutions. Also, note that while it does automatically request HTTPS versions of websites, it doesn't perform any complex redirects for those that don't support the protocol.
